Since 2001, the Bush administration has initiated a “No Child Left Behind Act“ which is often mocked by political pundits of taking steps backward in “educating” children.
NCLB (shortened in pronunciation to “nickelbee”) which enacts the theories of standards-based education reform, formerly known as outcome-based education, which is based on the belief that setting high expectations and establishing measurable goals can improve individual outcomes in education - This sounds good, isn’t it ? Everything gets “standardized” so as to be quantified and measurable.
In Sir Ken’s book, NCLB would have failed miserably.
PS. Just to make sure if Sir Ken’s theory would work, I asked my 15-year old American born Thai nephew, what would he do if he doesn’t have to go to school … IDK is his answer … get it? IDK (I Don’t Know!) .. It’s a balancing act the basically tells grownups to be creative in educating their children!
