โรงเรียนจงหัว เป็นโรงเรียนสหศึกษา สอนระดับประถมศึกษา สมัยนั้นสอนแค่ชั้น ป. ๔ ถือว่าเป็นชั้นสูงสุดของการศึกษาในระดับประถม ต่อจากนั้นก็เป็นชั้นมัธยมศึกษา ก่อนเข้าศึกษาต่อในชั้นมัธมศึกษา จะต้องสอบชั้นประโยคประถมศึกษาให้ได้เสียก่อน จึงจะได้ใบสุทธิ ป.๔ เพื่อสมัครเรียนต่อในชั้นมัธยมศึกษาได้
มหกรรมการสอบประถมศึกษา ทุกโรงเรียน ไม่ว่า โรงเรียนราษฎร์ โรงเรียนรัฐ และโรงเรียนเทศบาล ต้องสอบพร้อมกัน เป็นการสอบวัดความรู้ระดับประโยคประถมศึกษา ถึงเวลาสอบพ่อแม่ ต่างเตรียมความพร้อมพร้อม พาลูกหลานไปสอบที่สนามสอบที่ทางจังหวัดจัดไว้ให้ พ่อแม่พี่น้องใครก็เป็นทั้งกองเชียร์ และกองสเบียงคนนั้น มีทั้งสอบข้อเขียน และภาคปฏิบัติ(วิชาการเรือน หุงข้าว ทำกับข้าว รีดผ้า) ซึ่งจะจับสลากว่าจะให้ทำอะไร ต้องใช้เวลาเตรียมตัวซักซ้อมทำให้ได้ก่อนสอบ ถึงเวลาจึงจะทำได้ มีพ่อแม่คอยบอกอยู่ห่างๆ ไม่มีสิทธิ์เข้ามาช่วยเหลือ
ผลการสอบโรงเรียนจงหัวสอบได้ยกชั้น สมัยนั้นยังใช้ระบบสอบทุกวิชาเฉลี่ยแล้ว ๕๐ % ถือว่าสอบผ่าน แล้วทำคะแนนได้สูงสุดของจังหวัดไล่ตามลำดับที่หนึ่งจนหมดชั้น แล้วจึเป็นลำดับที่ของโรงเรียนอื่นๆ ซึ่งสลับกันไป แต่ก็มีเด็กจำนวนหนึ่งสอบตก และต้องเรียนซ้ำชั้น สมัยนั้นพวกเรานักเรียนโรงเรียนจีน มีเพื่อนที่เป็นไทยมุสลิม ไทยพุทธ ไทยคริสต์ ที่เรียนในโรงเรีนรัฐ โรงเรียนเทศบาล ซึ่งก็สนิทสนมกันทั้งพ่อแม่และลูกๆ สตูลเป็นจังหวัดเล็กๆ ผู้คนในตัวเมืองมีไม่มากนักจะรู้จักกันหมด ลูกใครหลานใครก็จะช่วยกันดู และช่วยเหลือกัน นับว่าเป็นความโชคดีมากที่อยู่ในสภาพแวดล้อมที่ดี
