ในเชิงหนึ่งถ้านำมาสอนก็คือให้รู้ระวังตัวเองอย่าเป็นคนอ่อนแอ และควรเป็นคนเข้มแข็งเพื่อจะเอาตัวให้รอดจากการถูกทำร้ายหรือเอาเปรียบ
ความอ่อนแอและเข้มแข็งก็คงจะรวมทั้งร่างกายและจิตใจ
การมีจิตใจเข้มแข็งก็จะทำให้สามารถเผชิญกับปัญหาอุปสรรคต่างๆ ได้ ขณะที่จิตใจอ่อนแอก็จะทำให้ไม่อดทนในการแก้ปัญหา หรือไม่ก็หวังพึ่งพาคนอื่นไปตลอด
อ่อนไหนแตง แข็งไหนเว้น ไม่ได้สอนให้ไปทำร้ายใครที่อ่อนแอ แต่สอนให้เข้าใจธรรมชาติของคนทั่วๆ ไปที่ใช้อำนาจในรูปแบบต่างๆ เอาเปรียบ เอาชนะและใช้ประโยชน์จากคนที่อ่อนแอกว่า แต่จะไม่กล้าทำอย่างนั้นกับคนที่ประเมินแล้วว่าเข้มแข็งกว่า
