“ส้มปอเกลื๋อ” เป็นสำนวนใช้เปรียบเทียบคู่กรณีที่พอๆ กัน แต่มักใช้ในเชิงลบ
หมายถึงการที่แต่ละคนก็ไม่ยอมลดราวาศอก
ยกตัวอย่างเช่น นาย ก. และนาย ข. มีเหตุให้ทะเลาะวิวาทกัน ต่างฝ่ายต่างก็ไม่ยอมกัน เอาชนะด้วยวาจาและกำลังจนบาดเจ็บด้วยกันทั้งคู่ แบบนี้คนรู้เรื่องราวก็จะอุทานว่า “ปอๆกั๋นน๊ะ ส้มปอเกลื๋อ” และคนนอกก็จะไม่ไปยุ่งด้วย เพราะจะพูดอะไรไปก็คงไม่ฟัง
ส้ม ในความหมายของคำเมืองหมายถึง “ความเปรี้ยว”
ส่วนเกลื๋อ ก็คือ “เกลือ” ที่มีความหมายถึงความเค็ม
คำว่าส้มปอเกลื๋อ ถ้าจะให้เห็นภาพก็ลองนึกถึงเวลาที่เรารับประทานมะม่วงหรือมะขามเปรี้ยวๆ ถ้าได้กินกับเกลือปริมาณที่เหมาะสม รสก็จะออกมาพอดีแต่ก็จะเข็ดฟัน ส่วนมากคนที่ชอบกินของเปรี้ยวเช่นมะขามเปียกจิ้มเกลือจะนึกถึงรสได้ดี และตามร้านขายเหล้ายาดองมักจะมีจานมะขามเปรี้ยวและเกลือวางไว้ ให้นักดื่มได้หยิบเข้าปากหลังกรึบไปสัก 1 จอก
แต่บางครั้งสำนวนนี้ก็นำมาใช้แปลงสภาพบ้าง เช่น กรณีที่คู่ใดคู่หนึ่งทำงานด้วยกันได้ มุ่งงานไปอย่างมุทะลุ ไม่ค่อยฟังเสียงคนอื่น คนนอกก็จะบอกว่า คู่นี้ส้มปอเกลื๋อ คือเหมาะกันดี ทำงานไปด้วยกันได้อาจจะเข้าขากันดี แต่อยู่กับคนอื่นไม่ได้ เพราะ “แรง” หรือ “เอาแต่ใจตัวเอง” คนอื่นๆ ก็ไม่อยากให้ความเห็นอีก เพราะว่าจะได้รับคำตอบแรงๆ กลับมา สุดท้ายก็คือปล่อยให้สองคนคิดและทำกันไปเอง
