การควบคุมอาหาร ก็แนะนำให้เริ่มที่การลดปริมาณที่กินเข้าไปก่อน หมายรวมถึงผลไม้ ขนมหวาน เครื่องดื่ม และอาหารว่างทุกชนิดด้วยนะครับ แนะนำให้ทานอาหารให้ครบทั้ง 5 หมู่ คือทั้งคาร์โบไฮเดรต โปรตีน ไขมัน ผักและผลไม้
อาหารที่เป็นแหล่งพลังงานของร่างกายมาจากอาหาร 3 พวกคือ คาร์โบไฮเดรต โปรตีนและไขมัน ปกติร่างกายจะต้องการพลังงานจากคาร์โบไฮเดรตประมาณ 50-70 % จากโปรตีนประมาณ 10-20 % และจากไขมันประมาณ 5-10 % ของอาหารทั้งหมด
บางคนมีสูตรต่างๆกันในการควบคุมอาหาร ก็ไม่ว่ากันนะครับถ้าปฏิบัติได้ง่ายและไม่ทำให้ชีวิตยุ่งยากมากขึ้น แต่ก็แนะนำให้ใช้หลักง่ายๆ คือกินให้ครบทุกหมู่ตามสัดส่วนดังกล่าว และค่อยๆลดปริมาณอาหารลงทีละน้อย ดีกว่าที่จะงดอาหารเป็นมื้อๆ
เดิมไม่เคยกินมื้อเช้า เพราะเป็นเด็กต่างจังหวัดเข้าไปเรียนในกรุงเทพฯ ต้องโหนรถเมล์ไปโรงเรียนตั้งแต่เช้ามืด กินข้าวเช้าไม่ทันเลยติดนิสัยมาจนแก่ พอเริ่มลดน้ำหนักตัวก็เริ่มหัดกินมื้อเช้า ขณะเดียวกันก็ลดมื้อกลางวัน มื้อเย็น อาหารว่าง ขนมหวาน และเครื่องดื่มต่างๆลงด้วย
ปัจจุบันนี้ กินอาหารประมาณครึ่งนึงของปริมาณอาหารที่เคยกินตอนอ้วนๆ แต่ก็ไม่มีปัญหาอะไร ไม่มีอาการผิดปกติ หน้ามืดตาลาย ร่างกายแข็งแรงดี มีแรงวิ่งได้ทุกเย็น รูปร่างดีขึ้นมาก แต่ต้องค่อยๆลดนะครับ ทำมาแล้วเกือบ 3 ปี มีความสุขดีที่ได้ควบคุมอาหาร ไม่รู้สึกหงุดหงิดหรือมีความลำบากในการปฏิบัติ การออกกำลังกายก็เหมือนกัน รู้สึกชอบและสนุกสนานกับการออกกำลังกาย รวมทั้งการปรับเปลี่ยนพฤติกรรมด้วย และคิดว่าจะทำอย่างนี้ตลอดไป
