การจัดการขยะก็เช่นเดียวกัน เอาง่ายๆแค่จะเลือกว่าใช้เตาเผาขยะหรือหลุมฝังกลบขยะดี ต้องทำการศึกษาเปรียบเทียบก่อนที่จะพิจารณาเลือกวิธีที่เหมาะสมกับแต่ละแห่ง ซึ่งมีสภาพพื้นที่ สภาพสังคม ประเพณีวัฒนธรรม ปริมาณและองค์ประกอบของขยะแตกต่่างกัน
อาจมีบ้างที่เลือกวิธีก่อน แล้วจึงจะศึกษา ก็พยายยามทำให้ผลการศึกษาสนับสนุนวิธีที่ได้เลือกไว้แล้ว หรืออาจไม่มีการศึกษาเปรียบเทียบเลย ถ้าถามว่าทำไมเลือกวิธีนี้ อาจได้คำตอบว่า ชอบวิธีนี้ คิดว่าวิธีนี้ดี หรือรัฐบาลสนับสนุนงบประมาณถ้าเลือกวิธีนี้ โดยขาดการศึกษาว่าวิธีที่เลือกเหมาะหรือไม่เหมาะกับพื้ื้นที่ของตัวเอง
